RE: PROPOSAL FOR ARCHIVAL CENTRE
Dear Councillor Paterson
The Downtown Brandon Business Improvement Association has been approached by Mr. Tracy Young to support a proposal for the development of an archival centre.
The Board of Management discussed the issue and certainly in terms of the cityís heritage commitment to date and direction in developing a Heritage Master Plan, the concept of a central amalgamation of archives seems appropriate.
The Downtown BIA would certainly support such an initiative, and would be willing to support the Municipal Heritage Advisory Council in seeking funding sources and support from various levels of government to achieve such a goal.
We have been extremely proud to be a part of the MHACís projects todate and in particular the 3 year heritage inventory project. The BIA would see the proposal for an Archives Centre as a natural step in the progress of maintaining Brandonís rich history. How we would accomplish this has yet to be determined.
Submitted on behalf of the Downtown BIA Board of Management.
