RE: PROPOSAL FOR ARCHIVAL CENTRE

Dear Councillor Paterson

The Downtown Brandon Business Improvement Association has been approached by Mr. Tracy Young to support a proposal for the development of an archival centre.

The Board of Management discussed the issue and certainly in terms of the city’s heritage commitment to date and direction in developing a Heritage Master Plan, the concept of a central amalgamation of archives seems appropriate.

The Downtown BIA would certainly support such an initiative, and would be willing to support the Municipal Heritage Advisory Council in seeking funding sources and support from various levels of government to achieve such a goal.

We have been extremely proud to be a part of the MHAC’s projects todate and in particular the 3 year heritage inventory project. The BIA would see the proposal for an Archives Centre as a natural step in the progress of maintaining Brandon’s rich history.  How we would accomplish this has yet to be determined.

Submitted on behalf of the Downtown BIA Board of Management.

Sincerely,
Downtown Brandon Business Improvement Association
Carol Maggiacoma
BIA General Manager

Dear Mr. Tracy Young,
I used your link to view your website and it looks fantastic.  I spoke with the Board about your request for support and we will definitely support your initiative.  We do not have the capacity to appoint one of our staff or directors to your board.  However, we will gladly provide you with a written letter of support and as much information as we can regarding the Chamber of Commerce if you wish to include that info on your site.  I will print this e-mail and send it to you to meet your request for written verification.
Sincerely,
