1939 aerial view of BMHC
A 1939 aerial view of BMHC.
At that time we had three sections of land with our own
cattle, horses, pigs, gardens and orchard.
Sterilizer
This is a sterilizer used in the old O.R. and
then in the Central Supply Department.
.

Some of the equipment used in the laboratory which
moved to the Brandon General Hospital in 1974.

Some old farm equipment
used before the farm closed in 1971.

A display of old fire hoses, extinguishers, and a fire helmet.
At one time the hospital relied upon a volunteer fire brigade.

Equipment used to chop up plug tobacco
which the men chewed or put in their pipes.
Male wards had spittoons for the men to spit their tobacco into.
Cobbler's Bench
A cobbler's bench used by a patient
to repair shoes for the other patients.

.

Old Mouse Trap
An old mouse trap which is like a maze that
the mouse walks into and gets caught.
Bread Slicer
Bread Slicer
Hospital cooks made their own bread in the early days.
Some wards had 150 patients ~ a lot of bread to slice.

Tin, porcelain and glass scrub boards were used for scrubbing clothes.
A ringer and boiler were necessary in the early days when ladies thought
they had to boil clothes to get them white.

Dairy, polishing and farm administration equipment
Prize ribbons for livestock
The hospital had prize holstein cows and featured here are
some of the ribbons won at summer and winter fairs.

Gateway to the Cairn Park
Cairn with patients' names dating back to the 1800s
When you stroll through these gates
you will find a cairn dating back to the 1800s ~
all official records were lost in the fire of 1910
