THE JFK ASSASSINATION
Dealey Plaza :: Dallas, Texas

After lunch we returned to Elm Street and walked to the infamous grassy Knoll area where we took stairs leading to the pergola up by the Knoll.

Along the way we took photos of many of the locations that had played such an important part in the investigation of the tragedy, including the stockade fence and Triple Underpass bridge to the west, past which the limousine stopped briefly to get instructions on how to get to Parkland Hospital. Interestingly, there was a souvenir stand at the pergola entrance offering maps, books and videos.

From the Knoll by the plinth from where Zapruder took his famous photos, we could see an X marked on the pavement in the middle of the street where the shots had hit JFK. Bill couldn't resist dodging heavy traffic to stand on the X, while Sue-On snapped a photo.

We also had a good view of the wooden fence from which a second alleged shooter had allegedly fired his shot.  Supposedly, the motorcade was to go directly down Main Street and onto the Stemmons Freeway, but the route was changed at the last minute to turn off Houston Street and onto Elm Street.  The route down Elm Street took the limo near the Grassy Knoll, where a shooter was supposedly stationed behind the stockage fence. This is one of the many events that fan the flames of conspiracy theories.

We crossed to the north side of Elm Street to the reflective pools, peristyle and obelisk that were built much earlier (1937 and 1940).

After leaving the Museum and Dealey Plaza we moved on to visit the George W. Bush Library.
