On our way home from
the Edgar Rice Burroughs convention in Louisville, KY,
Bill and I finally checked off an item on our bucket list:
a visit to A Christmas Story House
in Cleveland, Ohio!
A Christmas Story is a 1983 movie
that has become a tradition for many families.
It's based on the short stories and anecdotes of
author and raconteur Jean Shepherd.
In fact, he narrates the film.
.
The hours of operation for anyone interested.
The Parker family "lived" in this 19th century Victorian house,
in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland's west side.
Only the exterior shots were done at this house.
Interior shots were done on a sound stage.
.
A fan of the movie from San Diego bought the house, which had fallen to disrepair.
The interior was completely gutted and refurbished to replicate what was on the sound stage.
The house was opened in 2006 for tours.
.
I'm not so sure that Bill's leg can stand up to
comparison with the infamous leg lamp -
The Major Award!
I preferred to keep my legs well covered ;-)
.
This is a familiar scene in many home of that era.
Bill's family had a similar radio from which they enjoyed programs like
Fibber McGee and Molly, The Shadow, The Jack Benny Show, etc.
Bill has collected such OTR shows for many years and has thousands of them in our library.
.
The Major Award as seen from inside the living room, much to Mrs. Parker's embarrassment.
.
The tour guides giving a brief history of the movie and of the house.
.
Bill trying to get caught up with news from 1943
(a special year for him <g>)
after being on the road for many weeks.
What?! I've won a major award?
This might even be better than last spring's
Lifetime Achievement Award
from our alma mater Brandon University ;-0
.
I am reminded that a woman's work is never done!
.
The boys toys and books in their bedroom.
I think Bill had the same titles in his own collection. Oh Fudge!
.
The boys' beds. They have the same chenille bedspreads of the era.
.
A selfie of both of us getting a tour of Ralphie and Randy Parker's bedroom.
