We were picked up in the lobby of the Fleur De Chine Hotel and we drove toward Sun Moon Lake. We stopped along the way at Wenwu Temple also known as Literature-Warrior Temple. It is dedicated to Confucius as Master of Pen and to Kuan Ti as Master of Sword, and includes Holy Monk Shrine and Ci En Pagoda.
Sun Moon Lake is located in the middle of Taiwan. It is situated 762 meters above sea level in the lofty mountains of Central Taiwan. The area surrounding the lake has many trails for hiking.  It is the largest body of water in Taiwan. The area around the lake is home to the Thao tribe, one of aboriginal tribes of Taiwan. 
Sun Moon Lake surrounds a tiny island called Lalu. 
The east side of the lake resembles a sun while the west side resembles a moon, hence the name.
