During our cyclo tour we saw a great variety of buildings and famous landmarks. There were run-down homes and businesses scattered among more upscale traditional houses, French colonial architecture and beautiful luxurious hotel. Hotels such as the Royal Cambodiana -- that catered to the booming tourist industry here. (High tea is served every day at 5 pm from $15.00.) 

Many more modern buildings were under construction -- most financed by foreign countries such as China. Heritage buildings we saw included the Independence Monument, the Royal Palace, National Museum, Silver Pagoda, the Art Deco Central Market, elaborately guilded temples and many fine French colonial buildings that are now government buildings. Scattered along the way were numerous parks. As we saw in the other SE Asian countries we visited, there were many foreign franchises in evidence: KFC, Honda, Burger King, Dairy Queen, Century 21, as well as numerous coffee, pizza and other fast food chains from the US, France, China, etc.
