I was fascinated to come across your reminiscences of the base at Rivers where I lived for 1953.
I think we were the only British family on the base, my father being posted there for a year from the UK.
We lived in the right hand half of the green roofed house in the centre of the picture below.

I went to the school on the base and still have the certificate and medallion that
I think all Manitoba school children got to commemorate the Coronation in the summer of 1953.
The area was completely bleak in 1953, with almost no trees or bushes at all.

In 2012 I went back to have a look at the base and the picture of my Mother proudly in front of our Nash
is taken from the spot that I took the last picture, where clearly there has been quite a growth of trees and general vegetation.
In ’53 the only thing that the lightning could go for was telegraph poles!

Many memories of that time but not good enough to recall my classmates
(I was not 6 until October ’53 but was allowed to go to school all that year as a concession
since I had already had 2 years of schooling)
