Jaipur, the "Pink City of India," has a population of over three million, making it the tenth most populous city in the country. It is located 260 km from New Delhi and it forms a part of the Golden Triangle tourist circuit along with Agra (240 km). The distance to Tordi Palace is about 120 km.

We left on our trip to Tordi in early morning. The drive through the city provided an opportunity to see many of the city landmarks, shops, an elaborate Bollywood theatre, shopping centres, commercial buildings, monuments, government buildings, parks, gateways . . . and of course, masses of people and and endless variety of vehicles.

As the suburbs thinned we saw more and more fields with a variety of agricultural activity. Many of the fields were bare since the season was after harvest and before the vital rains of the monsoons.
